    Those bikes didn't look that fast in the first race.
    The second race outcome showed how fast they really are.
    They look like streched out speedway bikes.

    I see 4 guys racing their asses off and one smooth guy out on a Sunday ride.

    If you look closely at the knee area of the rider you will see he is locked in for stability on the bike by jamming his knee between the footpeg and a bar that is attached to the frame.
    In Japanese but he explains the bike:

    The leg brace is very common on older speedway bikes.

    I respect your knowledge Robert, but the leg brace was NOT limited/unique to ice racers.

    Here's some early Crocker speedway bikes with the leg brace.
    Other examples/models are readily available.
