I would gladly do an annual donation to get rid of the ads in SBR.

Yes, I donate, usually when I sell things via SBR or to other SBR members.

If more people donated, the ads might not be needed.

I actually don't notice the ads, but what I do sometimes notice is that some of the ads freeze my browser for a while. That is truly irritating. I generally blacklist sites that do that to me, including almost all news sites and especially newspapers. Haven't had that happen here in a while, though.

I would gladly do an annual subscription to SBR to get rid of the political threads, that sometimes leak over to the non-political threads. It's no surprise that the inception of advertising has been followed by an increase in political threads and views of political threads, which likely drive revenue. It's true that an easy fix is to boycott "In The News", which I do. But that rancor now leaks out of "In The News".

Andy has created a masterpiece. Motorcycles are one of the few obsessive passions that bring together people who would otherwise not tolerate each other. SBR brings those people together for awesome moto rides. Then the new political era and media drives them apart. It's a strange irony.

Political threads have been argued about on SBR for at least the last 14 years. Before that they were argued about on Insanespeed and Club Desmo and I'm sure many other motorcycle forums, back to the dawn of the world wide web era in the 90's when some of you were drooling infants. :laughing There is no new political era, nor any solution other than the one that has always existed - read what you want to read, ignore the rest, and don't try to control or censor what other people post.

While the political threads can be jarring from time to time, there's a positive to them.

They indicate that SBR is a big tent, that there is a welcome diversity of experience and points of view and that we have an opportunity to hear information and opinions we might not get elsewhere.

While it was never the primary purpose of SBR, it's a very welcome bonus.

I go straight to New Posts and cast off from there. The ads are never noticed.
Good for @Andy though. Not a damn thing wrong with a man creating revenue from his passion, especially when that passion freely provides all of us with such immeasurable value all across many different facets of our lives.

Actually I tried to measure the value. I figure that I get more than a buck a week in pleasure from this crew. So I try to send @Andy an annual donation. Sometimes I forget for a while, then I feel all guilty and PayPal away.

Well given how many Hillary haters there are, I'm betting, you could buy a whole lot of stuff. Perhaps a new motorcycle?
